Putting Community First
Daniel Webb’s Story
Daniel Webb is a lifelong public servant who believes real safety starts with real community partnerships. Having moved here in 1994, he made San Juan County his home because he loves the people, culture, and diversity. He also enjoys living in a place where the four seasons bring beauty and the opportunity to enjoy our abundant outdoor amenities. Daniel and his wife, Kelly, have been married for 11 years. Together they share a blended family of five, and he treasures time spent with his grandkids. Outside of work, you’re likely to find Daniel playing pool while listening to Elvis, camping, or swapping old law enforcement stories with friends. Daniel’s dedication to public safety spans nearly three decades. He spent 15 years with the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, serving as a patrol deputy, school resource officer, GREAT (Gang Resistance Education & Training) instructor, patrol sergeant, civil support sergeant, and administrative support lieutenant. He was especially passionate about community policing: building relationships in neighborhoods and schools, and volunteering with Special Olympics to make a difference in people’s lives. In 2012, Daniel accepted the role of deputy warden at the San Juan County Adult Detention Center, later becoming the administrator in 2020. He didn’t take the job to sit behind a desk. He saw an opportunity to create real change for the community. Under his leadership, the detention center became one of the first in the state to implement the RISE program, addressing behavioral health needs and providing structured support for those transitioning back into the community. Another program Daniel helped bring to the detention center is the ReEntry Support Services (RSS) program. This initiative is community-rooted, developed by a recent Leadership San Juan class that approached Daniel about making their vision a reality. Their original project focused on connecting individuals with community resources the moment they were released by creating a resource wall, an informational video about probation, and even installing a donated charging station. With Daniel’s support, that vision has evolved into a robust program offering in-person case management, personalized reentry planning, transportation, housing assistance, employment support, and referrals for mental health and substance use treatment. By investing in the success of individuals after incarceration, RSS works to reduce repeat offenses and make San Juan County a safer place for everyone. Daniel is a Certified Corrections Executive through the American Correctional Association. He’s a graduate of Leadership San Juan (Class of 2009) and Leadership New Mexico (Class of 2014). He’s been a member of the Fraternal Order of Police for over 20 years, serves on the SJC Sheriff’s Office Foundation, is co-chair of the NM Counties Detention Administrators Affiliate, sits on the board of the NM Adult Detention Professional Standards Committee, and is co-chair of the San Juan County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council.

The Heart Behind Daniel’s Decision to Run
Throughout his career, Daniel has lived by the mission of the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office: protecting life and property in partnership with the community, upholding the law fairly and equally, and maintaining integrity, compassion, professionalism, and dedication to service.
After years of serving in patrol, leadership, management, detention, and administrative roles, Daniel knows that now is the right time to step forward as sheriff. He’s seen firsthand the challenges facing law enforcement — from recruitment and retention struggles to harmful policies coming out of Santa Fe that make communities less safe. He believes San Juan County needs a leader who will restore a true community policing mindset, support deputies so they can succeed, defend constitutional rights, and fight at the legislative level for common-sense policies that prioritize public safety over politics.
Daniel’s decision to run comes from a lifelong commitment to public service and a deep love for this community. He wants to lead a department that embodies respect, integrity, and partnership, working side by side with residents to solve problems, prevent crime, and protect our way of life.
“I’ve known for years that I wanted to serve this community as your sheriff. I’m running now because after decades of experience in law enforcement and leadership, I know I’m prepared to do the job right. I truly believe we can strengthen partnerships with the people we serve, support our deputies, fight for better policies, and make San Juan County the safest it can be,” Daniel Webb.
Daniel’s Priorities for a Safer San Juan County
1. Community Policing
Daniel Webb knows real safety starts with trust. He spent 15 years with the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, serving in various roles, including patrol deputy, school resource officer, sergeant, and lieutenant — all of which required building strong relationships. As an SRO, he taught the GREAT program to help kids resist gangs and violence. He also volunteered extensively with Special Olympics, demonstrating his commitment to serving all members of our community. As sheriff, Daniel will prioritize true community policing by listening to residents, working closely with neighborhoods, schools, and businesses, and ensuring that every voice is heard. By strengthening these partnerships, he will help solve problems proactively and keep San Juan County safe for everyone.

2. Protecting Your Constitutional Rights — Especially the Second Amendment
Daniel believes respecting your constitutional rights isn’t optional — it’s foundational. He’s committed to defending your freedoms, especially your Second Amendment rights. Daniel knows the people of San Juan County value the ability to protect their families and that taking guns away from law-abiding citizens is not an effective crime prevention strategy. He also understands that law enforcement carries a great responsibility to uphold these rights fairly and equally while protecting public safety. Having worked in both the field and leadership roles, Daniel understands the balance between enforcing the law and respecting individual liberties. As sheriff, he will stand firm against any attempts to weaken the Second Amendment or restrict the rights of law-abiding citizens, making sure government overreach has no place here.

3. Supporting and Retaining Qualified Deputies
Daniel understands what it takes to serve as a deputy in San Juan County because he’s done the job. He knows the recruitment and retention crisis isn’t just about pay. It’s about respect for law enforcement, fair policies, and a culture where deputies feel supported. As sheriff, Daniel will work to restore trust in the badge, defend qualified immunity to protect those doing the job right, and build a department where deputies know they’re valued. He’s committed to making the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office a place where professionals want to serve for the long term and where the community knows its deputies are well-trained, supported, and ready to help.

4. Advocating for Effective Public Safety Policies & Programs
Daniel understands that keeping San Juan County safe requires more than arrests. It requires effective policies and real solutions. He knows that harmful legislation from Santa Fe, like catch-and-release laws and attacks on qualified immunity, makes our communities less safe. As sheriff, Daniel will work with lawmakers at the state level to oppose these dangerous policies and advocate for common-sense laws that prioritize public safety over politics. He’ll stand up for solutions that protect families and ensure those who break the law are held accountable. Daniel also understands public safety means tackling the root causes of crime, not just treating the symptoms. As a corrections leader, he knows that 10% or less of those incarcerated will go to prison, which means nearly everyone comes back to our community. True public safety means helping people avoid returning to the system. That’s why Daniel is committed to connecting people with the resources they need to become productive members of San Juan County — because reducing repeat offenses makes the entire community safer. As administrator of the detention center, he supported innovative programs like the Leadership San Juan-inspired ReEntry Support Services (RSS) initiative and the RISE behavioral health program, both designed to help people successfully transition back into the community and reduce repeat offenses. Daniel knows these kinds of proactive, community-based solutions work, and he’s ready to champion them as sheriff.

Because Real Leadership Earns Trust
I don’t like jumping into the overtly political fray on social media. However, I believe Daniel Webb will make for a good sheriff. Danny is a genuine man. While I’m sure we stand on different sides of the political spectrum, at least on some issues, Danny is a guy who makes all people of all beliefs feel welcomed. One of my passions is mental wellness. Danny has done due diligence to provide support and care for both the detainees and officers he oversees. Danny gets that people make mistakes in life. I always hear him refer to detainees in a way that maintains their dignity and ensures that the work to be done is to help people move forward from their mistakes and become productive members of society. When I asked Danny why he was running, he told me that law enforcement needs to have a strong relationship with the community, to put the serve back into protect and serve. He is an avid supporter of the Special Olympics and has a big heart for community causes.
