Today was a solemn reminder that we stand on the shoulders of heroes. It was a beautiful evening for the Four Corners 9/11 Stair Climb. This annual event pays tribute to the first responders who gave their lives on September 11, 2001, so that others could live.

Political violence is never acceptable! We must be able to disagree without resorting to hatred or harm.

I had the chance to join the Beyond the Flag podcast alongside Bloomfield Police Chief Phillip Francisco. We discussed my work as an administrator at the San Juan County Detention Center, my years in law enforcement and corrections, and the kind of sheriff I aim to be — one who prioritizes community service, safety, department morale, and more.

I enjoyed meeting so many of you, listening to your concerns, and discussing the future of our county together. One thing that stood out in nearly every conversation was the importance of safety — for our families, our neighborhoods, and our community as a whole. It’s clear that safety is at the heart of what matters most to the people of San Juan County, and it’s something I take seriously.

It’s been a busy week of events! The Aztec Police Department hosted its annual National Night Out on Tuesday at Minium Park. I stopped by after work, and what a great turnout! It’s inspiring to see neighbors, law enforcement, and local leaders come together in a spirit of connection, safety, and community pride.

Last night, I had the opportunity to attend an Americans for Prosperity New Mexico event focused on strengthening our state, starting at the community level. Former Lt. Governor John Sanchez said something that stuck with me: real change starts from the bottom up. That’s what I believe, too!

Hosting CMWS players is a community service that’s truly unique to Farmington, and it’s one of the things that makes this tournament so special. This year, Kelly and I had the honor of welcoming two incredible young men into our home, and what a week it was.
