Being sheriff isn’t just about what happens here at home. There’s a bigger picture. It requires a strong presence in Santa Fe, where the sheriff must represent our community on critical issues that impact public safety.
When I was chosen to serve as administrator of the San Juan County Detention Center, it was because of my ability to listen, find common ground, and work with people from all walks of life.
That same diplomacy is what’s needed in Santa Fe. We can’t afford to have someone who turns people away before the conversation even begins. To make progress, we need a sheriff who can keep the doors open, not close them.
As sheriff, I’ll use that diplomacy to take on the tough conversations, build bridges with legislators, and fight for the policies that make San Juan County safer.
